This means that contrasts can be made more readily than they should be: it enables aestheticians to talk without arrière-pensée of the impossibility of providing recipes for the production of works of art, in contrast to moralists whose job is precisely to produce general codes of conduct.

After all, sensitivity to fictional characters is in some ways a great deal easier than sensitivity to real people.
